You’re moving into a house with security devices
A new home may come with an existing security system. All the devices function well, are hung in the best spaces, and are ready to go. In this case, just get the phone to call and start a new monitoring contract. A Vivint expert will still come to your home to make sure there are no integration issues, and they could offer options on upgrades. It's a preliminary trip, and you can have your monitoring set up without having a bill for any new components -- unless you get some new devices.
The previous owners can move an existing Vivint contract to you for a one-time set-up cost to make the process simpler. If the owners are moving to an apartment or smaller home, transferring the home security service may be a condition of the sale.
You are looking to move and take your old devices with you
You might need to bring along your favorite home security components with you to a new home when you move. That’s fairly simple to transfer, as modern smart devices are plug and play. You can uninstall each component by yourself or call a professional expert to take down the system. Then a pro will hang the same devices -- and any smart devices you need to add -- in the new house. And your home security contract will remain the same.
